Manchester is a city in the north west of england. It was granted city status in 1853 & now has an impressive population of over 450,000. Manchester is the 3rd largest conurbation in the uk & it's also the 3rd most popular city for foreign tourists to visit.

Manchester rose to prominence during the Industrial Revolution, which is when it became the world leader in textile manufacture and production. the city is very proud of its industrial history & some of the cotton mills that were in use during this time have been changed into flats & offices.

The city is also renowned for its commerce, technology and science. It boasts 3 universities & is renowned as the home of the Baby computer, which revolutionised computing.

Although the city still has many pretty Victorian buildings for instance manchester town hall & Central Library, it also boasts plenty of clinical buildings. many of these structures were built after the city was bombed by terrorists in1996.

Manchester has many activities to do, containing some marvellous art galleries and museums, which are really lively to explore.

These include the museum of science & industry, which tells the history of Manchester's rich industrial past. The museum holds touring exhibitions too, and recently held the renowned body worlds 4 exhibit. The city's best art galleries include the nexus gallery, which has some lovely pieces.

Manchester also has some gorgeous green spaces, so you'll be able to enjoy a wholesome day trip there.
