With increasing price of petrol and diesel, we are being forced to pay a considerable more money towards our car fuel bill. Only a few people could absorb the increase costs, most of us are looking for ways to reduce our fuel bill. One possible solution is to drive less. But, for most people and businesses, that is not possible and they have to continue using their vehicles. Therefore, people are looking for an alternative fuel that would cost less. LPG is turning out to be one such fuel. LPG, which is the short name of Liquid Petroleum Gas, is also known as Autogas. LPG could be produced from both crude oil and natural gas. The gas is a by-product during the extraction of oil and gas from the wells. The gas is also produced during the refining process of crude oil as well as during the processing of natural gas. Most of this gas is produced during natural gas processing but a significant amount is produced during crude oil refining too. LPG is a mixture of propane and butane. These gases are mixed in desired proportion to manufacture LPG. One property of this gas is the proportion of these components could be varied as per the prevailing climate. Generally, the two components are mixed in 50:50 ratios but in colder climate more propane is mixed while in warmer condition it is the reverse. The biggest benefit of using LPG as auto fuel is that it leads to a substantial saving in fuel costs for automobiles. The savings could be as high as 50% depending on the prevailing price of petrol or diesel. Another great benefit of using LPG as auto fuel is the fact that it is lot more environment friendly. It is much cleaner and less polluting than petrol or diesel with lower particle count and thus causing less air pollution and releasing less carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and sulphur to the atmosphere after combustion. Because of this reason, the government is giving incentive to increase the consumption of LPG as vehicle fuel. Presently, not many cars are using LPG as fuel, but the number of such cars is increasing day by day. The process of converting of vehicles using LPG kits is quite simple. In fact, LPG Conversion is quite a simple process. Such a process does not involve removing the existing fuel system. Rather an additional gas tank and a fuel system are added. This conversion makes it possible to drive the vehicle using either fuel. In case, LPG gets exhausted, the driver could switch to petrol or diesel to drive the vehicle. Looking at the increasing popularity of LPG as auto fuel, some of the car manufacturers have started producing some models of their cars with LPG kits factory fitted. Therefore, use of LPG as auto fuel should be encouraged because it not only saves money but also provides green benefit to the environment.
