By: RobertJamesaulb

Social situations around you can be affected by your mood. As a matter of fact, if you are depressed enough, you might not want to be involved at all in anything. Sometimes it gets so bad that you sequester yourself away in some locked room for days and people can’t get to you. Always work on ensuring you don’t do anything that can harm you or anyone when you are depressed. Better still, work hard on forcing yourself to get out of such depressive states.

Depression might not seem a big deal in its simplest form. In fact, we are all expected to get depressed occasionally. What is not expected is that we feel suicidal or immobilized by the emotion. This is never a good sign; at such times you ought to go see a doctor or talk to those that love and care for you. They will be able to help you before you do something harmful to yourself.

Psychiatrists and psychologists all over view depression as a sincere illness. In its severe form, it manifests in various ways and can even lead to a number of mental and physical symptoms. In the end, it could actually even kill you. That’s why you need to get it cured in a hurry.

Depression manifests in so many ways that they are difficult to track at best. Some forms of the condition though, have symptoms that are milder than what comes with major depression. Major depression is the type where you become suicidal; I'm sure you have heard of that one before. Work to ensure you don't stay depressed for any period of time. It's not healthy one bit.

Depression may appear in anyone anytime from their childhood up until old age. Usually it begins when you get into your 20s but it has been known to start up plenty earlier, especially in recent times. Back in the day, one may have thought that it was something that took place only in people beyond the age of thirty, but well, we live in a fast changing world. If you have young children, it’s time to talk to them to ensure they are not always depressed. If they are, seek help for them right away, before it gets clinical.

The world is changing. Depression was something that happened to adults only just about a generation ago. These days however, everybody, young and old alike, suffer from depression and its symptoms all the time. Somehow the stress that was meant for only the advanced in age is being passed down to the guys just growing up..

Depression is a condition that messes with all of your body’s systems. Your appetite and your sleep habits are often the fist to change. Soon enough, your whole world is affected; and then you probably go visit a doctor and complain of various bodily ailments when it only “the blues.”

Depression will change your energy level for sure, negatively that is. Restlessness and agitation are never far away, leaving you fidgeting and pacing. Also, it could be the other way round. You could lie down moping throughout the whole of the day and yet feel no better at the end of it.

I have seen a depressed person attempt to commit suicide before. He was angry with God for striking his brother ill. He wasn’t exactly trying to end it; he was actually going to have a chat with “the Old Man up there,” and reason it out with him. Good thing “the Old Man” wasn’t prepared to give him audience; I still have my brother. But that’s depression at work for you. Most people who commit suicide would surely regret their actions if they could come back and look at the richness that their future held… if they had lived up to that future.

You will very likely have difficulty thinking when you are under the influence of depression. When it is severe, some people even complain of poor concentration, if they are able to think that far at all. The worst part is when you begin to have problems with your memory. But the solution to depression, most of the time, is not to allow negative things to grow or even take root in your mind.

An obvious cause such as marital conflict or financial difficulty might seem to you as the reason for your depression, but it has got to be something that is really reaching you on the inside. So – therein lies your source of getting rid of such feelings. Look within and fill yourself up with happiness. If you do, you will be on your way towards getting rid of depression.

Picture this: twins that are identical even up to a genetic level, and that are raised in the same environment are highly likely to have depression in common. The figures obtained from researchers show that the level is even three times more than you might expect in twins that have only about half of their genes in common.

It is no news that people living in depression see themselves in a negative light. Their environment and everyone in it are not safe, and neither is the future. It is common to find them hating themselves and making self-deprecating comments that are helpful to no one. If this also happens to you or someone you love, it’s time to change your feelings from negative to positive – all the time!

There is a distinct possibility that an imbalance of hormones in your body may play a role in depression. You may understand this simply by studying women. Some of them can get very emotional and even unreasonable when their hormones rage. Depression is one of these emotions, and sometimes it can get very extreme.

Depression could cause you to brood and worry all the time. Bad part? You don’t know what you’re brooding about. And so you would brood and sulk all over the place with no focus, looking for someone to brood with you. And when you do not find anybody to brood with or to, you brood some more. If you are the party that helps a depressed person by brooding with them, it’s just not fair. You are doing him or her a great deal of harm… and yourself too, eventually.

Let me treat you to a few words and phrases that relate to depression: helplessness, hopelessness, grief, lack of direction or understanding. Do you find anything familiar yet? Here's more: prolonged exposure to uncontrollable and inescapable events, apathy, pessimism, loss of motivation; I'm just warming up... this list is endless. And here's the catch, none of those words are good feelings. Don't allow them into your life. They don't belong with you. Get rid of them as much as you can.
