As a Paralegal you may have specialized in a particular field such as Immigration. If you find employment in the immigration department you will be expected to be proficient in immigration laws so as to be able to attend to the public just as an attorney would. For instance, a Military Paralegal should have been trained and passed both Military and war law courses to qualify as a Military Paralegal. If you desire advancement in your career as a Paralegal,then consider upgrading your training and get a certification from the appropriate Paralegal Association. To conclude, you can see that the Paralegal is not just a mere lawyer's clerk as he was referred to in the past. For this reason Paralegals are most like to do over time on a continuous basis. This is where a Paralegal passes the acid test or falls by the way side.
