While you are sleeping, the air passageway contracts as the throat muscles relax, making it difficult to breathe. This causes noisy vibrations known as snoring. The amount of noise depends on the pressure of the air that is being pushed through the narrow air passage. Snoring is caused by narrowed airways in the throat. Obesity is also a root cause of this, resulting in extra fat in the throat region. Blockage of the nasal pipe is also a major cause of snoring, as are viral infections and other sources of nasal congestion. Lifestyle factors including hectic schedules also affect snoring. Irregular lifestyles, smoking, obesity, sleep position and other behavioral decisions also impact snoring. Snorers generally have nasal congestion which makes vibration more likely as the tongue obstructs the smooth breathing. They also may have other breathing problems such as those caused by exposure to smoke or asthma, which can also cause snoring due to restriction and irritation in your airways. Drugs such as alcohol and sedatives that relax your throat muscles creates drowsiness, which causes your tongue to slide downwards and narrow your air passage. This causes you to breathe air through your mouth with great force, resulting in snoring. Snoring cures Nasal strips are those which are worn on the nose. This makes your breathing more comfortable by opening your nostrils. To have maximum effect it is recommended to use it continuously for 6-7 nights. * Elevating the head of your bed will help promote easier breathing as it supports your tongue and jaw, making them move forwards instead of blocking the airway. Avoiding substances that can aggravate the condition, such as cigarettes, alcohol and fatty foods, can help. Switching position to sleeping on the side can help keep the airway unblocked, as can raising the head of the bed. * Loosing weight can help to lessen fatty tissue which is present in the airway. Improving fitness level will extensively help you to improve your ability to breathe freely while sleeping. * Proper diet also helps to cure snoring. Avoid dairy and high fat products, substituting nutritious foods, helps to prevent snoring. * Avoid alcohol as it is a muscle relaxant. Also avoid other sedatives and sleep medications unless absolutely necessary.
