Roulette Casino Classical System

By: Brooklyn1

The Grand Martingale, sometimes called the "Great Martingale", is probably the most popular variation on the basic Martingale casino system. After every loss, in addition to doubling the bet, one more unit is added. If a bet of 5 units is lost, the next bet is 11 instead of 10 units, and after the next consecutive loss the bet is increased to 23 (22 plus 1).

Advantage Of System
The advantage to this variation is that whenever a series of losses is broken by a win, the net gain is greater than just the initial bet. Using the above sequence, a win after a string of four losses would result in a net gain of 9 units instead of 5 units for the standard Martingale system. This is calculated by subtracting the four losses (5 + 11 + 23 + 47= 86) from the 95-unit win for a net gain of 9 units. Certain roulette gamblers concluded that by doubling their bet and adding two units instead of one after each loss, they could still sustain eight losses before running into the table limit. For those who have plenty of disposable funds, this line of thinking does have merit. If someone is going to take big risks, they may as well try to make it more worthwhile.

Reverse Martingale
Some blackjack gamblers feel confident enough not to chase their losses, as is done in the standard Martingale, but would rather take advantage of winning streaks. Instead of doubling the bet after every loss, in the reverse Martingale the bet is doubled after every win and reverts to the initial bet after every loss. As one can imagine, this system gets kind of tips. As with most “reverse” systems, good judgment has to be used in determining how far to carry a winning streak. One cannot just let it run to the table limit because a streak of eight consecutive wins occurs only about every 395 spins. Since the first loss will wipe out all potential gains from the streak, it has to be cut short (reverting to the initial bet) to preserve any profits. Since each spin of the ball is an independent event, how does one determine when a winning streak should be deliberately abandoned? That is the tricky part.
