Review of the Garmin Streetpilot 2820

By: Sean McPhearson

If you're looking for a great motorcycle global positioning system that you can use easily with gloves, you may want to consider the Garmin StreetPilot 2820 GPS unit. The 2820 is so loaded with features, you'll be hard up to want anything more!

Unlike smaller units, the 2820 features a nice and large screen. Strangely, some people think it's too big. However, my experience with GPS units indicates that the more screen you have, the easier navigation is. The screen is built to display well in sunlight, which I really like. The other screen-related function that I think is cool is that it's touchscreen-enabled. You don't have to fiddle with any buttons!

The Garmin Streetpilot 2820 comes preloaded with streetmaps of North America as well as millions of points of interest (POI's) like restaurants, gas stations, banks, hotels, grocery stores, and area attractions. Because it's preloaded right out of the box, you won't have to hassle with trying to get stuff loaded on there so you can use it the first time. Simply turn it on and head out!

You might enjoy taking a little time though to set up 3 really cool features that the 2820 has. That is it's MP3 player, audio book player, and XM radio. You'll need to subscribe to an XM radio provider to use it, but you'll love the huge variety of options XM radio offers. The MP3 player will play anything you load up and the audio book function is cool because you can listen get some reading done while you drive without putting yourself in danger!

Don't worry that you won't be able to hear the audible directions while you're listening to something else while traveling. There's a mode you can set so that if you're traveling down the highway and need to make a turn, it will sound a tone so that you will know to hit the "speak" button to hear your next set of directions. This feature eliminates annoying interruptions, while still enabling you to not miss essential navigation help.

Some motorcyclists have found that the Garmin StreetPilot 2820 is a better option for riding navigation than the Garmin Quest. Apparently the 2820 is much easier to use while traveling down the highway at high speeds. The easier to use, the safer the device, so I'd suggest highly considering the 2820 if you're a motorbike rider.

The Bluetooth feature of the StreetPilot 2820 sure makes things simple. The 2820 has a built-in microphone and speaker so that you can hook it and make hands-free calls with your cellphone. You can also connect both it and your phone to your headset or helmet so that you can hold conversations, listen to audio, and get your navigational guidance at the same time all without hassle.

All in all, people all over the internet are raving about the StreetPilot 2820. Good reason too! This handy GPS has great features and configuration abilities to make it your dream navigational machine!
