Analysis On The Importance Use Of Toys For A Child's Development

By: Gary Clay

When choosing baby toys and children's toys the purchaser are generally most worried about the 'play value' of the toy, or how long the child will continue to be amused by it. All of us want to prevent the old cliché of purchasing a pricey toy only to discover the youngster choosing to play with the gift wrap instead. Toys can greatly compliment a youngster's cognitive advancement, something many mum's and dad's usually forget!

Children grow in many of areas such as; cerebrally (physically), and communally (through interaction with others). A well thought out child's toy can help to stimulate growth as well as be great fun to use. So when you visit the toy store are there any simple do's and don'ts we should be thinking about when making that critical purchase?

To start with, and rather controversially, you can pretty much avoid the new influx of electronic toys and PC run educational toys available. According to several studies, this kind of toy is not stimulating to a youngster's cognitive growth. The problem is that this category of toy limits the youngster's choices and reduces his destination to a sole result. Presenting a child with toys that will not stimulate them to think creatively does nothing to encourage the development of new mental patterns that assist development. As all parents knows a child's imagination is limitless and it is this gift to think differently from adults that allows a child to develop mentally at such an amazing rate. By playing a game with a pre-determined framework and a sole termination ending the youngster is not stimulated to think creatively.

University studies have shown that old fashioned toys are the most effective when it comes to motivating mental development simply because a youngster can utilize them in any number of ways. That makes it possible for a wendy house to be changed into any building that can be created within a youngster’s mind. Jean Piaget, a revered child physiologist, termed new ways of thinking "schemas". Schemas are created through the kind of creative thinking we describe here.

The classic infant toys are the best for motor development also. A youngster's physical maturation can be divided into two key categories; gross motor skills (the development of the large muscles so we can walk, lift and carry) and the fine motor skills (these facilitate individuals to operate objects using their digits and hands in a skilful and agile manner). Trikes and bikes have been amazing at developing the size, strength and co-ordination of the bodies larger muscles in older children, for years humble baby toys such assorting cages and xylophones have been great for promoting hand eye co-ordination and stimulating little muscles.

Last of all, it's clear that the simplest toys may be the answer for social development as well. Simple toys - ones that encourage your child's communal and emotional abilities - are an ideal method to guarantee your little one’s growth. Make believe play toys allow a child to safely experiment with new and different situations and to produce more complicated pretend play games with other children. They permit children role play varied situations and get a more rounded image of the surrounding world while still maintaining a sense of safety.

Here are the key points to bear in mind when choosing your kid’s Festive or birthday gift.

1. Is it possible to play with this toy in a number of alternate ways?
2. Is it possible for kids use their thoughts and creativity to transform the purpose of the toy?
3. Will this toy be well made, appropriate, enticing, enjoyable, and safety tested?
4. Can the toy develop to offer more advanced challenges as the youngster develops and grows?
5. Does the toy allow the kid to work with other children?
6. Is this toy simply a flash in the pan or will it still be a component of your kid's life in several months.

No matter how fancy it looks, or how well advertised or packaged it is, the robot dinosaur will never offer your child the development of skills that the plain old pull toy offers. The spotty dog will still be taking walks even with the batteries drained on the Robo-Dino.
